Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving was so wonderful. We visited my grandmother and family in KC. Still find it so funny we started this blog to help those with Hemongiomas. Funny how quickly we move onto the next big issue once one is resolved. One family member noted this weekend that you can’t tell she had anything! I am so Thankful for that.
Addison spent the night at her aunts for the first time last night. She danced and had a blast. They also went to a very cute train restaurant. She isn’t going to want to come home!

Spring fun

Our spring has been pretty wonderful, aside from the Crazy weather. We have had multiple Easter egg hunts and only one has ended in post search let down. Addison was hilarious at Easter mass, she decided to do interpretive dance. It was a hit! Especially her gold sequins shoes.

R.J. and I are busy doing the same, working and keeping up with little miss feisty. I love her spirit, but it wears me out at times. We are also planning a trip to Ireland in July! Parents only. After this, it is nothing but princesses and shammoo.

Addison is silly

The weather here in TN has gotten so beautiful. We are loving all the outside time we can get. Addison keeps asking her Daddy to let her ride her bike, only problem she doesn’t really get the whole using the pedals thing.

So, the other night Addison was telling us a story about Monkeynastics when all of a sudden she started singing “butterfly butterfly fly fly away” I have no idea what she is singing! Anyone heard of it. Here is our crazy girl wearing her monkeynastics shirt.

Our little one has truly grown up on us. She has now advanced to her big girl bed. Just like potty training, i procrastinated. And just like potty training, it was so simple. I put both of these off because I hate “making” her grow up. She makes life easy on us.

Anyway, I will post again soon. Next adventures…egg hunts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

St. Patick’s day fun

The Pratt family truly enjoyed our day O’green. We all dressed in green and taught Addison to pinch those who were not wearing them. Probably a bad lesson to teach a two-year old. A random man was running by our house and she yelled out to him, you are not wearing green..pinch pinch pinch. Lovely parenting.

We treated her to leprechaun juice, and she wasn’t buying it. She said “this taste like milk”. Oh well we tried to be festive. Unlike McDonald’s, can you believe they do not have Shamrock shakes in all locations. That is shenanigans.

Anyway, happy March.

Funny thoughts for a funny day

I started this blog because of the hardships with Hemangiomas. I am delighted to say the emails have significantly dropped asking for help or questions seeking help. I am delighted because it is my hope that people are being treated.

I used to be so concerned that my daughter would be viewed differently than most children. That is why this next part is so funny to me. Addison’s school has asked to use her in their ads in a local parenting magazine. I smile, thinking back how I was so afraid she would be disfigured, and now she will be representing her daycare. I love little surprises in life like this. Our journey has a happy ending.

Addison Update

Addison is doing so great! We had to go back for another laser treatment about a month ago. Her scar was still quite a bit red, but it looks fabulous now!

5 weeks post op

Addison is healing so nicely! We are now five weeks post op and we continue to see improvements each day with her incision. It is, of course, still red but much better than what it was. We were told it could take up to six months for the redness of the incision to go away. Oh, patience you are not my friend:)

We have had countless “oh she has a boo boo on her head” since the surgery. Much better than hearing the awful comments we had before. While I am on that subject I would like to share a “cute” story from a child on this journey. As we all know, adults can say truly horrible things about children with these types of birthmarks, but I want to put positive things out there.

So, one day (pre-surgery)

we were at this fabulous restaurant in Nashville, Pancake pantry. While we were waiting in line this adorable little kiddo walked up to me and was looking at Addison. I braced myself waiting for what he was about to say, then all of a sudden he started smiling. I was baffled. He turned to his dad and said “look Dad, she is just like Harry Potter”. He was SO excited. For those of you who don’t know me I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and our fictional hero had a lightning bolt scar on his head from his nemesis Lord Voldemort. This really brought a big smile to my face, my husbands and a friend that was with us.

I know it is so hard to deal with Hemangiomas, but I hope you all can experience more good than bad in your journey!

One week post surgery

Attached are some pictures of miss Addison one week post hemangioma removal. She is doing so well! They took the stitches out and she didn’t even make a peep. What a trooper! Her head is healing nicely.

The end of our Hemangioma Journey

Friday June 5, 2009 Addison’s forehead hemagnioma was removed. She was such a champ and did a wonderful job. Dr. Richter and nurse Emily Copeland did an amazing job. I can’t believe that we are done with this before she even turns one. What a journey it has been and now that is is done I am thankful for it. It has taught me patience and persistence and brought Emily and Dr. Richter into our lives.

Addison’s tissue will be used for research purposes, so she can continue to help others. Our little angel!
